About Jerry Mills
Always having a passion for playing music and radio, Jerry was part of the original staff of Denver’s first progressive radio station, KFML-AM and FM. This spirited free-form music outlet served as a highly creative radio station for the Denver Metro area. It also became a meeting ground with future bands Jerry would end up touring and recording with, including The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Michael Martin Murphey, The Ozark Mt. Daredevils, and Mason Williams. Charlie Daniels was an early visitor on Jerry’s program. This connection subsequently led to Jerry playing on several of Charlie’s legendary Volunteer Jams in Nashville.
Once off the road, Jerry returned to radio and helped form bluegrass band Southern Exposure which played throughout Denver and The Rocky Mountain west for 35 years.
One of the inductees of the first class of the Colorado Bluegrass Music Society Hall of Honor, Jerry was the recipient of Best Bluegrass Radio Show of 1997 for his program, Rocky Mountain Bluegrass, and Westword’s Best Bluegrass Radio Program (1999) during his days at Denver’s KYGO FM starting in the late 1980s.
Currently, Jerry performs with long-time friends in a band that has been ongoing for decades called Spurs of The Moment. He is also part of Timothy P. & The Rocky Mt. Stocking Stuffers playing their Christmas show every early December at The Lakewood Cultural Center and beyond for well over 20 years. Jerry hasn’t left radio. Since 2006 his Pickers Choice radio program, a twangy, Americana- Bluegrass mix, has been on the air in the Rocky Mountain region, and for the last eight years, on Ski Country Radio, KSKE -FM in Vail. Hear Jerry’s superb mix of music on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. He also produces radio spots for bluegrass and country music festivals in five states.
